Nous sommes heureux d'annoncer que les nouveaux membres se joignent au conseil d'administration de la CHLA / ABSC 2017-2018.

Vice-présidente : Juanita Richardson – Michener Institute of Education at UHN

Trésorière : Susan Murphy – University of Saskatchewan
Directrice, Relations publiques : Caitlyn Ford - CADTH

VP: Juanita Richardson – Michener Institute of Education at UHN

Juanita Richardson is currently the Librarian at The Michener Institute of Education at UHN - the only institution in Canada devoted exclusively to applied health sciences education.  Before joining Michener, she worked with Rebecca Jones and Jane Dysart of Dysart & Jones.

Juanita has experience on both sides of the information industry.  She worked for many years as Business Development Consultant for CEDROM-SNi.  Prior to that, she was Manager of Licensing, Product Strategy and Client Services with InfomartDialog.  Before “crossing the street”, she was the Manager of the Business Information Centre for Deloitte.  She has been an instructor at Seneca College’s Library and Information Technician program as well as with the iSchool Institute at the University of Toronto.

With an MLS, MBA and vast experience in the information industry, Juanita has worked on projects ranging from implementing corporate knowledge initiatives to advising information service companies on content and marketing opportunities, to market analysis to inform strategic planning discussions.  She has served on the Board of Directors of SLA, currently serves on the Management Committee of the Health Science Information Consortium of Toronto and has spoken at various information industry conferences and published in industry magazines.

Treasurer: Susan Murphy – University of Saskatchewan

For the past 8 years Susan has been the Head of the Health Sciences Libraries at the University of Saskatchewan, which encompasses the Leslie & Irene Dubé Health Sciences Library, the Veterinary Medicine Library, and SHIRP (Saskatchewan Health Information Resources Program). In addition to more traditional liaison librarian roles, her prior library experience has included Reference Coordinator, Staff Training and Development Coordinator, User Surveys Coordinator, and map librarian (which was interesting given that she is geographically challenged!). Over the past couple of decades, library renovations/moves/new builds have became synonymous with the ‘other duties as assigned’ portion of her job.

Since joining CHLA/ABSC in 2008, Susan’s contributions to the Association have included membership on the 2009-11 Nominations Committee and co-chair of, and volunteer in a variety of capacities at, the 2013 CHLA/ABSC conference. Her activities in other associations have included:
  • Chair, Association of Faculties of Medicine of Canada (AFMC) Network on Libraries, 2015-16
  • President, Saskatchewan Health Libraries Association, 2011-12
  • WILU conference volunteer and session convenor, 2011
  • Nominations Committee Chair, Canadian Association of College and University Libraries, Canadian Library Association, 2002-03
  • Secretary-Treasurer, Canadian Association of College and University Libraries, Canadian Library Association, 2001-02
  • Conference volunteer coordinator, Saskatchewan Library Association, 2001
  • Secretary, College and University Library Section, Saskatchewan Library Association, 1994-1995
Susan’s research interests focus on emerging issues in academic health sciences librarianship, distributed education, and client services, in particular implications of new technologies for service provision.

PR: Caitlyn Ford - CADTH

Caitlyn Ford is a Research Information Specialist at CADTH (Canadian Agency for Drugs and Technologies in Health). Cait graduated with her Master of Library and Information Science from the University of Western Ontario in 2009 with a keen interest in medical librarianship, which was fostered by her co-operative education placement at the Science Library Network at Health Canada. While completing her MLIS, Cait held a position as a reference assistant at an academic library, and upon graduation she worked in a corporate archive until joining CADTH in 2010. Cait has a strong research interest in grey literature, specifically its value, practicality and how it fits into the systematic search process. Her other primary research interest lies in the use of Social Media, and how it can encourage collaboration and communication between library professionals, paying special attention to how medical librarians are using Twitter.

Cait is currently in her second two-year term as the Continuing Education Coordinator for OVHLA (Ottawa Valley Health Libraries Association), where she organizes exciting, new and rudimentary continuing education opportunities for the health libraries community of the Ottawa Valley and surrounding area. She is also the creator and account author for the Chapter’s Social Media presence on Twitter (@OVHLA) and Instagram (@_OVHLA_), whereon relevant news, Chapter events and continuing education opportunities are shared and promoted.  She is also looking forward to being a part of the planning committee for CHLA/ABSC Conference to be held in Ottawa in 2019. Cait was the recipient of the 2016 CHLA/ABSC Emerging Leader Award in May of 2016.
