PsychByte: ADHD and Obesity

ADHD and Obesity

A meta-analysis of 42 published and unpublished studies showed a significant increase in obesity in both children and adults with ADHD when compared to those without ADHD. The prevalence of obesity in children with ADHD was increased by 40% over those without ADHD; in adults, the prevalence was increased by 70%. This may be important information for clinicians and parents to consider when conducting an evaluation for ADHD and in recommending treatment.
